Slide Background
OUR MISSION

The mission of the National Committee for Geological Sciences (NCGS) is to promote geology and to coordinate, the activities of geologists in Belgium, both at a national and international level.

  • WHO ARE YOU
The national committee is there for you! The National Committee for Geological Sciences forms part of the Royal Academies for Science and the Arts of Belgium that work to promote science and art in Belgium. In order to meet this demand, the Academies organize scientific and cultural activities, promote interuniversity cooperation in Belgium, provide representation in international and European organizations and they offer a platform for researchers to formulate recommendations to the government, industry, education and research.
  • OUR MISSION
The mission of the National Committee for Geological Sciences (NCGS) is to promote geology and to coordinate, the activities of geologists in Belgium, both at a national and international level. NCGS has a close relationship with the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS), which is part of the International Science Council (ISC). The IUGS is a non-governmental organization of geoscientists from over 100 countries that promotes the exchange of scientific information and the development of geoscience research of global significance and facilitates international and interdisciplinary co-operation in Earth Sciences. NCGS is concerned with the protection of geosites/geoheritages, provides answers to governmental questions, and stimulates collaborations between institutions and universities in order to promote geology. NCGS is also becoming affiliated with the geological society Geologica Belgica Luxemburga Scientia et Professionis (GBLsp), and is reaching out to young researchers (e.g., prize for best post-doctoral communication at GBLsp meeting) and the broader audience (e.g., olympiades in secondary schools, representation at geological and geotechnical meetings & committees).
